100 years of Neruda
100 tahun lalu telah lahir seorang penyair Chile, Pablo Neruda yang jatuh pada tanggal 11 Juli. Hal ini diperingati di Chile, dengan menggelar sajak terpanjang yang digelar di jalan-jalan Kota Valparaiso, Chile. Naskah yang panjangnya mencapai dua kilometer itu digelar mulai dari depan rumah Neruda, La Sebastiana di daerah pelabuhan, hingga ke pusat kota. Rekor ini akan dicatatkan pada Guiness Book of World Records.
Neruda bukan sekedar penyair. Dia juga seorang peraih nobel dan pemberi inspirasi masyarakat Chile. Berikut sepenggal puisi Neruda yang diterjemahkan dalam bahasa inggris:
I do not Love You
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved
in secret, between the shadow and the soul
I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself light of hidden flowers
thanks to you love a certain solid fragrance
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where
I love you straighforwardly, without cmplexities or pride
so I love you because I know no other way
that this; where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep
